Why the price of a bumper is only one part of the repair
A broken bumper and headlamp give a starting point for an estimate. Repair scope also depends on the mounts, neighbouring components and equipment in that vehicle. Photos may reveal some of these areas; others remain concealed.
For a front impact, the first list can include the visible panels, lamp, removal and fitting, painting and the necessary fasteners. Deeper displacement can add questions about the reinforcement, cooling area, wiring or equipment behind the bumper. These are conditional checks, not an automatic replacement list.
Compare the same scope of work
A useful quote separates parts, body and mechanical labour, paint preparation and materials, diagnostics, applicable calibration and consumables. The part’s exact version, condition, completeness and delivery matter when comparing prices.
One quote may include only visible exterior work while another includes dismantling, fasteners and checks. Compare equivalent operations before treating the lower total as a cheaper complete repair. Confirmed work and items awaiting inspection must remain identifiable in the repair estimate.
Scanning and calibration are different operations
I-CAR distinguishes diagnostic scanning from calibration. The required work depends on the vehicle and the affected equipment. A general diagnosis line in a quote may therefore need clarification.
Equipment behind a damaged bumper must first be identified for that version of the vehicle. Its presence does not prove damage. The relevant procedure and actual condition determine the work.
Separate confirmed repairs from items awaiting inspection
Assuming that the bumper is the sole damaged component does not establish the full repair scope. Components behind it remain unconfirmed until inspected. List confirmed and conditional work separately rather than assigning an invented reserve percentage.
The front-impact example above is illustrative, not an inspected lot or a price prediction. Photo analysis helps define the initial repair scope and the questions that could change it.
