What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Fuel tank is plastic and is deformed from gas that is from us states, it has swollen and and can no longer fit on the bike it is too big to latch down and the gas cape could leek because it can not close because of the change in shap if the tank.
Gas tank swollen, can't latch it down. Paint is bubbling and peeling.
Two days after getting it home I noticed the strong smell of gasoline in the garage. I called dealership they suggested that was normal. A couple of days later I noticed staining on the frame rails beneath the seat and it smelled of gasoline.
The first sign was fuel leaking around the fuel pump seals, slow at first, then dangerous levels. The seat pad, which attaches to the tank, cannot be properly secured due to the shifting of the bolt locations. The tank/seat itself cannot be properly secured into the frame now, making it hazardous to ride.
The fuel tank on my 2005 ducati multistrada 1000ds is warping and is jammed into the frame, it also has started to leak fuel this bike has 3500 miles on it.
