What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Plastic gas tank expansion resulted in the tank being fused to the bike. Ducati north america refused to cover the issue even though there is a class action lawsuit filed.
Rear brake system looses compression allowing the brake pedal travel to be increased to more than double the expected distance. Rear brakes will not work as expected over 5mph. Suspected air in the brake system lines. No lost of fluid is shown.
The contact stated that while driving 25 mph and applying the throttle, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and after a few minutes the failure recurred. The process was repetitive. The following day the vehicle failed to start.
The gas tank on this motorcycle is plastic and has swollen to the point that it will not securely latch to the frame. It has swollen against the latch that connects it and into the ignition system. If you ride this bike, you are riding it without the tank connected to the bike.
The contact stated that while driving into his garage he noticed fuel leaking out of the vehicle and leaking on him. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure or reenact it. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 2,100.
Ethanol reacts with the plastic tank causing it to expand resulting in possible gas leaking. Warping of the tank and expansion signs are visible. Nothing has been done yet to correct this issue.
