What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The vehicle has a fire protection pad. When the fuel tank was replaced, the dealer removed the pad to give the tank more room to expand. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 16,381.
Fuel tank keeps expanding. Ducati replaced tank 2 times but with the same material or same type . Tank swelling makes it impossible to remove to get under the tank for maintenance or access to battery . Tank also doesn't fit properly to frame .
The engine case has 2 severe cracked in the place where the frame mounts to the engine. This is common with the s2r and st3 because of a design flaw in frame design adding increased pressure to that part of the engine case.
Gas tank has expanded to such a point that the latch securing the tank to the body can no longer function. The gas tank could become loose while the vehicle is in motion causing an accident.
