What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
I have 2004 harley davidson road king police. I was coming down the canyon and my rear brake pedal went all the way down on a curve. I used as much front brake as I could with outlocking up the wheel. Before I could stop I had to go off the road to avoid a truck in front of me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 flhpi harley davidson motorcycle. While driving at 15 mph and attempting to merge into traffic, the electrical components on the vehicle failed, as well as the brakes. The contact was thrown from the vehicle and suffered severe head injuries.
Fuel leak, very common on this manufacture. Due to design flaw.
The harley davidson police motorcycle flhpi road king is starting to show wear marks on its' brake lines. The constant turning of the forks has rubbed the rubber lines to the point where it leaks. The brake lines are routed at the factory behind the headlamp assembly which pushes onto the brake lines.
While driving 55-70 mph, the contact was informed that his tail light was flickering intermittently. He added dielectric grease to the vehicle and the failure ceased. He received recall notice # 04v218000 (exterior lighting:tail lights).
It was quite fortunate that this did not result in a fire! The fuel line had separated from the connector on the fuel rail and the fuel pump was supplying fuel at the full delivery rate.
