What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
On 7/10/15 while driving the honda ctx 700nd with automatic transmission the engine surged from 1 mph to 20mph without touching the throttle causing an accident in a parking lot. Brakes did not stop the vehicle and didn't have time to hit the kill switch. I was heading straight.
The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. There was an abnormal clicking noise detected. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure was due to the starter relay switch. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.
On this occasion, the motorcycle stayed in high idle and tried to surge forward. I was able to stop the surge by using the hand brake. I pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the engine, and restarted the motorcycle. After restarting the engine I was not able to shift out of neutral.
The vehicle would surge forward, without additional throttle, when the brake was released. The vehicle was driven to a safe location and turned off. After 30 minutes of being turned off, the vehicle was restarted and appeared to have returned to normal operation.
