What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Pressed down on braked and nothing happened. Pressed down on emergency break to aid in stopping. No warning lights or sounds
Error codes P0016 and P0017 camshaft out of alignment and vehicle will not pass smog test, also loss of power of the engine.
The contact slammed on the brakes but the brake pedal failed to respond, causing the front of the vehicle to crash into a second vehicle. The air bags deployed. The passengers of the second vehicle did not sustain any injuries. The contact sustained a chest burn but did not seek medical assistance.
Check engine light came up. Car cannot accelerate beyond ~30 mph even with high rev.
While driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate. While shifting gears, the vehicle violently lunged forward without warning. The accelerator pedal was engaged with force; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.
While driving approximately 20 mph, the inside of the vehicle filled with smoke. The contact noticed that the driver's seat caught fire. The contact stated that the seat warmer was activated and, once the seat warmer was deactivated, the fire extinguished independently. There were no injuries.
I noticed I was getting burned on my upper hip when the seat heater was on. Thought it was the metal trim on my jeans getting too hot but discovered the seat heater had burned a hole through the seat and smelled like a fire. I turned it off and now do not use the seat heaters.
The warning light came on and a message stating "drive directly to the workshop without switching gears," popped up. I stopped the car and started it again and there was no light for about 2 minutes of driving, then the lights began again abs/esp and flashing inoperative light.
