What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Drive gear (clutch gear) for oil pump, cams etc. Broke spider washer (retainer clip) and came loose striking back of clutch basket which kept it from coming completely off which would have caused engine destruction. Gear should have had more torque applied at factory to nut and red lock-tite applied to threads.
The bike did not start, so I thought it was battery related. I had to get my pickup, then trailer the bike home. I then found out that the battery was fine and that the problem was stator related(resistance check)!
The motorcycle had symptoms of a bad battery. The battery was replaced and died while 2 hours from the house. I began checking the charging system and notice 0vdc generator output. I inspected the part and found that several magnets were cracked, one sliding over another and being filed down by the stator.
The ignition rotor has a series of magnets glued to it but that glue failed causing the magnets to come loose and break apart in the engine cause fragments to go all over inside the engine. What I have read on the suzuki forums this is a common occurrence.
