What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Zuma 125 stalled at a red light in a left turn lane with three lanes on either side of me, putting me in a dangerous position. At the time I had alternate transportation and did not try to ride it again till the fall. All through winter and spring I went without problems, but again this may it started to act up.
The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
In hot weather (greater that 90 degrees) engine stalls and cannot be restarted until engine cools for an hour. Stalled at red light in four lane highway. Needed to push to side of road. Very dangerous. Stalled again next day same situation. Runs fine at night when cool.
Being that there has been issues and complaints filed with the 2009 yamaha zuma 125cc fuel pumps, the problem is the fuel pumps are defective and causes a hazard in traffic ,stalling of the scooter while driving .this creates a problem at hi speeds and also happens when you shut the bike down after a ride.
The contact stated that while driving 40 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle towed to the dealer who diagnose that an electric plug had become loose. The contact mentioned that 1,700 miles later the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 358 and the current mileage was 2,000.
When I tried to restart it, it wouldn't start. The fuel pump wouldn't even turn on. I've read about many more people having this problem. When will there be a recall? It's $200 to fix this problem that I shouldn't be having.
