While slowly backing into a parking space in an underground hotel garage, the rear parking sensors never activated — no audible warning at any point — and the vehicle's left-rear corner struck a concrete wall corner, cracking the taillight and damaging the bumper/quarter panel (~$3,000 repair).
Description of Safety Defect & Incident Sequence Severe moisture intrusion inside the driver-side headlight assembly triggered a sudden cascade of critical safety sensor failures while driving, followed by an active electrical short, component melting, and smoke (fire hazard) after the vehicle was shut off.
The headlight assemblies on both the right and left side have water pooling which severely dims nighttime visibility and creates an immediate risk of total headlight failure while driving at highway speeds.
The vehicle was immediately parked at an authorized Genesis dealership due to the risk of pressurized fuel leaking onto hot engine components and igniting an engine compartment fire. The dealership confirmed the defect and performed the recall service, completing and invoicing the repair order on August 5, 2026.
The evaporator core leaks 1234yf in the cabin rendering the air conditioning useless. During times of higher humidity, the air conditioner is needed for defogging the windows of the vehicle. The inability to do so severely limits visibility.
At approximately 68k miles, I observed hesitation when pulling away from a stop in our 2023 GV80 2.5t AWD Prestige. At 71,300 miles, we observed an increasing howling noise from the rear of the vehicle, primarily at coasting, with various tones emitted during application and release of the accelerator pedal.
A software defect exists which causes the vehicle to reset the electronically controlled side view mirrors such that they point downward, obscuring the driver's view along the sides of the vehicle. I have notified the Genesis dealer and Genesis USA before and neither has been able to reproduce or rectify the problem.
The contact stated that while pulling into traffic, the vehicle stalled. The accelerator was depressed, but the vehicle failed to move. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was due to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V282000 (Fuel System, Gasoline).
