What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
During this entire time, I did not press the accelerator and the car was violently shaking and jerking right and left. As the car slowed down, I was able to steer the car to the right eastbound lane of [XXX] , next to the parking lot near Bank of America’s ATM sign.
The passenger-side panoramic sunroof drainage system/roof structure leaks water heavily through the side panel joint of the door frame, directly saturating the front passenger floor carpet.
The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH, the message “Heat Management Module Malfunction” was displayed and the warning light was illuminated. The drive-train warning light was illuminated. Upon research, the contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V586000 (Fuel System, Diesel).
Weeks later the Drivetrain Malfunction warning light appeared as i was driving home late at night from the ER. I took it to my BMW dealer. The diagnostic test was performed and was told the Heat Management Module HMM needed to be replaced at a cost to me of $3000.
On [XXX] I was driving on a Florida highway at 80 mph when a low oil pressure warning appeared. I pulled over immediately. A fault log pulled at 2:05PM showed code 1C3002.
The heated seat element had a runway incident that caused the seat to smoke and burn a hole through multiple layers and ultimately damaging the airbag sensor mat disabling the passenger airbag system
This condition can lead to an electrical short circuit and, in rare cases, may increase the risk of a vehicle fire. This issue presents a serious safety concern for vehicle owners and others on the road. A failure of this nature, especially one that carries a fire risk, warrants immediate review and corrective action.
Due to a TSB (SIB 65 12 22) wherein the roof antennae leaks water and causes a short in the telemetry module, the car does not have pedestrian warning, navigation or backup camera / cross traffic warning. The car is drivable, but compromised from a safety perspective.
