What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v312000 (air bags). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My 2002 dodge ram 1500 had a severe front end impact , the air bags did not deploy., resulting in my neck breaking and my wife being injured . The seat belts were in use on both of us.
2001 dodge ram 4x4 drivers side rear brake line rusted through creating a leak when trying to stop in driveway at home. Had bushes in front of parking spot blocked by railroad ties as a landscape divider. The truck ran into and partial through railroad ties into bushes to stop the truck. No repair made yet on truck.
I had complete frontal impact and air bag did not deploy. Truck is possibly being estimated a total loss. I hit and snapped a telephone pole, 3 cement barriers and a tree. Safety belt was being used.
There is a complaint already on file about the upper ball joint that fell out @17k miles. The complaint that I want to file now is the lower control arm tha is flexing when the brake is applied or when a bump is encountered. The truck will jump from one lane to the other when a rough place is hit at interstate speed.
While coming out of a curve the truck jolted, dipped and could not be controlled (1st failure). Subsequently I hit a telephone pole detrying the passenger side front panel and the truck slid to stop after "shutting off" ( 2nd failure).
