What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Steering is unstable when traveling. Also, frame is cracked. Dealership is aware of problem.
The main frame of the motorcycle cracked across the upper frame tubes at the welds where the stearing head is attached to the remainder of the frame. Because I noticed the damage before complete failure occured there were no injuries. Had complete failure occured the motorcycle would have been un controlable.
Head stud broke on horizontal cylinder (silver finished ones seem to be more prone to this than black ones)causing oil to pour out directly onto exaust header and rear tire, high potential of fire and loss of vehicle control. This is a known and fairly common problem on three or four model years of this bike.
Frame cracking is a problem with ducati 900cc motorcycles. It is a regular topic of discussion on the web sites and on group rides. Depending on location and milage the dealer reaction has varied from warrentied frame replacement to denial of manufacturer fault.
