What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Just bought a new ducati sport classic 1000 motorcycle from dealer and the gas tank has spread and is no longer attached to bike and the plastic tank is rubbing on the frame.
Gas tank spreads (expands) out of the mounting brackets. The gas tank can be lifted off the frame. Ducati has replaced the tank once and the new tank is spreading. I am losing steering lock-to-lock because of the expanding tank.
I have made no modifications to the fuel tank or fuel pump. I took the bike to the dealer who submitted a claim to ducati north america (the importer/factory) and they refused to replace the tank.
What to check before buying
- Fuel system. Fuel smell, leaks, rough running, fuel-system codes.
- Structure. Rails, pillars, panel gaps, signs of pulling or welding.
