What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The starter fails to start the car. The starter throws out the pinion ,but fails to engage the fly wheel and crank the motor. Starts out intermitent and steadily gets worse. I have replaced the starter 3 times, one after market refurb starter failed right out of the box.
Eps (electric power steering) light on dash lights up followed by almost total loss of steering. Takes extreme amount of force to steer car when system cuts out. Once car is stopped and engine switched off light will reset and power steering will return.
While driving the power steering went out. After multiple restarts of the engine it did not work. I was able to drive it to a nearby honda dealer, with much physical effort to turn. The dealership saw the light on and ran the code, but after a later check the eps light went off. No resolution.
The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated when it was cold started. An independent mechanic replaced the battery, but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken to johnson city honda (2806 n roan st, johnson city, [ZIP], [phone]) where it was determined that the starter could be the cause of the failure.
While driving the eps light starts flashing and I have no power steering. I pulled over and turned the car off and on many times, but it doesn't fix the problem.
When the vehicle was started, the contact heard a strange grinding noise coming from the starter. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and occurred several times over the period of three months.
