What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact drove the vehicle again and the failure recurred. As a result, the contact was involved in another crash. A police report was filed both times.
After completing the body work the shop noticed the rear frame rails were rusted out to a point it would not pass pa state inspection, which had nothing to do with the cosmetic damage.
2002 kia sportage airbags failed to deploy in an accident. Consumer states that the airbags did not deploy and her seat belt did no lock causing injury to her chest. Manufacturer stated airbags did not deploy because force was not sufficient.
Dt: the contact stated that while driving at 40 vehicle wa sinvolved in a collision and air bags did not deploy. Someone pulled out in front of the contact's vehicle and sit hit the other vehicle. There were not lights on the dashboard to indicate the air bags would not deploy.
The entire front end of my kia sprortage was damaged with about $6700 in damages and the air bags didn't deploy and myself and my passengers were in our seat belts but badly bruised and thrown about. I was informed by kia that I didn't hit the sensors ... Ok the whole front end was gone where exactly are the sensors?
Driver's side seat belt disengaged from buckle assembly releasing the consumer.
We have religiously cleaned our 2002 sportage with under washing to keep under carriage as clean as possible...yet we are told the frame is too rusted, with holes and cannot be inspected or driven safely...we have less than 90,000 miles on it.
When looking at the car we noticed the whole frame is rusted and falling apart. This is a huge safety problem, especially when it was being used to transport my children.
