This year I have had two rims crack on my tires. 1 Front and 1 rear. This was not from a impact or pothole they just cracked. I belove this is a manufacturing defect on the AMG CLS-63S rims and should the break apart on the highway this could be a potential safety issue.
A cast aluminum wheel on my 2008 mercedes benz cls63 amg cracked due to a casting defect. In the inside lip of the rim of the wheel at the outer diameter is a void, or hole, that was created by a an air bubble that was entrained in the molten metal but could not escape the mold before the metal solidified.
A mercedes-benz 2008 cls63 amg has four oem cast aluminum wheels with large casting defects in the form of debris collected at a knit line around its circumference. The other three pictures show the knit line as well as mold debris.
Then on 06.09.2013 the front driverside tire blew out as I was driving home, on a 30 mph road. Same scenario, I heard a loud pop and pulled over. Roadside assistance was again on site, and the front driverside tire had blown out from the inside wall.
A few days ago I noticed a very strong fuel smell after filling up my car at the gas station. I took my car to the dealership and they said that the fuel tank is leaking and both fuel sending units need to be replaced.
Over the last year, I started noticing a very strong fuel smell in the garage, when I happened to park the car there after a fill up. Recently, I tested it without filling up, just about 2/3 full, and there was no smell.
