What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
This was my first bonneville the brakes went out suddenly without warning on both cars. This 1988 bonneville was a total loss because damages added up to more than the car was worth.
Automatic seat belt; during impact at 30 mph, the driver's side shoulder belt did not lock. Cause unknown.
Driving vehicle, swerved vehicle to miss animal in street, landed in revine, vehicle stuck betwen 2 trees, driver pinned/trapped, vehicle caught on fire.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning. All of the seat belts will not click in or hold through the retractor.
Prior alternator lasted lest than 15k miles. I get stranded every time the alternator fails (now for the fifth time). This is dangerous and could lead to my injury or even death, depending on where I am the next time the alternator fails, including on the highway in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.
The alternator on my 1988 bonneville sse has failed five times since new, the last time after only less than 18k miles and less than 2 years, each time stranding me.
A-frame that mounted to vehicle had rusted, causing engine to fall out backwards suddendly. Also causing loss of steering. No warning.
Transmission pump shaft sheared off due to long term deterioration.
