What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
While driving approximately 55 mph, the steering lost power. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall. The driver side tire became stuck under the driver seat without warning. The driver and passenger side air bags deployed.
2003 saab 9-3's steering locked while driving on the highway* when the steering locked, the consumer crossed into the oncoming lane, hit a snow bank, a snow ramp to a flower bed, went airborne and hit a wooden business sign, crossed to more properties, and came to rest on the rear end of a pleasure boat.
The engine lost power without warning, and when attempting to restart the vehicle the steering function was lost as well. The onstar indicator read that the steering and engine were malfunctioning. On eighteen occasions the saab dealer was unable to diagnose the failure ,and refused to purchase back the vehicle.
After putting the vehicle in park engine revved at a high rate, causing vehicle to hit a wall. Consumer sustained injuries. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Sudden acceleration. I have a 2003 saab 9-3 arc, bought on 9/03, around 13,000 miles, yesterday I went to office and stopped in the right position to park in front of the wall, I stepped on brake, push the gear to "p", all of a sudden the engine started "howling", and accelerated to hit the wall, Im pretty sure…
Now the problem with my saab stalling has become worse. I was travel in traffic, when the vehicle stalled while in traffic. The engine stalling caused me to rear end the vehicle in front me. Which in turn caused a four car accident. There were no injuries reported, but now my problem is much more severe.
Airbags did not deploy in a 30-35mph frontal collision with an oncoming vehicle. Seatbelt restraint injured both passengers, but none of the airbags deployed.
Parking brake failed -- car rolled while unoccupied -- rolled down slight hill and crashed into another car.
