What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Toyota has been jerking me around for 3 months. My truck has been repaired as far as body work but toyota tells me that I will receive a letter with their determination as to whether they will repair the steering column. 4 weeks ago they told me that I would receive a letter. I am still waiting.
The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact mentioned that all three passengers sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was not available.
In 2015, the unexpected acceleration recurred. The dealer had an inspector diagnose the vehicle, who was unable to locate a problem. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. Updated 4/29/15 updated 11/10/2015
While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact crashed the vehicle into a tree in order to avoid a deer in the rain and the air bags failed to deploy. In addition, the seat belt separated from the frame. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the forehead that required medical attention.
Was coming to a stop at a stop light and the truck surge when the brakes were applied and hit the car in front of me. Truck surge two to three times after that. Toyota fix the surge issue and at the same time created another safety problem / defect.
The police stated they were surprised that the air bags did not deploy. Neither the frontal nor side impact air bags deployed. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage and current mileages were 28,000.
They said that this is "normal" last week we took it in due to a safety recall notice for sudden acceleration problems that toyota claims is due to floor mats. Dealer cut down the accelerator pedal, reprogrammed the computer control system, rotated the tires.
I have had problems with the throttle surging when the air conditioner is turned off. I took it to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong. I still continued to have problems but then, on may 11, 2010, I was going to park the truck behind our motorhome which had a car caddy attached to it.
