What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
I was pulling into a parking spot. When I went to accelerate, the car over-accelerated. The engine revved so high, I could not control it. I had nowhere to go and hit a cement wall, totalling my car. All the airbags went off. I did walk away, though.
Ran into a pole due to a-pillar blind spot, right side of vehicle. No warnings prior to incident.
It at one time had a safety recall and whoever at the the time never had it repaired but it has outdated piston rings that leads to progressive oil consumption, it’s misfiring and leads to catastrophic engine failure.
I did research and [dealer], they checked the data base and told me that previous owner had never had the piston rings updated and would cause high oil consumption leading to catastrophic engine failure & would have to have engine rebuilt or whole new engine with updated pistons , which the dealership never told me…
The dealer confirmed the failure and determined that the battery drainage had caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.
The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the driver’s side door latch had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the passenger’s side door unexpectedly opened.
