MDX does not determine engine eligibility
23V-751 dated November 8, 2023 lists certain gasoline MY2016–2020 MDX selected from production records, built June 3, 2016–March 20, 2020. It does not cover all family engines or establish hybrid applicability.

Separate vehicle and engine identity. Previous engine replacement can make body year insufficient for fitted parts. Unknown engine provenance cannot be filled from exterior appearance.
The documented path to bearing wear
Honda links premature connecting-rod bearing wear/seizure to an improperly manufactured crankshaft. Incorrect equipment settings could produce an out-of-spec convex crank pin. Unusual noise, stall or reduced power with check-engine indication are possible symptoms, not an individual MDX diagnosis.

A crushed-hood photograph cannot show journal shape or bearing condition. A recorded knock does not locate its source without testing. Internal faults need appropriate results; inaccessible internals must be labelled unexamined.
Front impact and internal defect need separate checks
Record front contact and accessible neighbouring components first. Leakage, a broken mount and engine noise are different observations. Several defects need not share a cause; compare baseline images, symptom timing and test results.
A pre-event no-start matters to history. If unknown, record it as unknown. An engine-replacement estimate cannot select manufacturing, collision or another cause. Attribution needs physical evidence.
Remedy requires inspection, not unconditional replacement
The dated campaign specifies inspection and repair or engine replacement as needed, not the same action for every car. Current campaign status, completion and individual engine fitness require separate checks.

Connect the confirmed defect to work performed. Retain removed-part findings and the surfaces actually examined. Engine repaired does not reveal test scope or establish body condition.
Crash-research limits
IIHS dates redesign to MY2014; CEN1339 used a MY2014 MDX 4wd with ratings MY2014–2020. Body context does not expand 23V-751 to MY2014–2015 or study service-population bearing wear.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety: IIHS: 2020 Acura MDX
Internal surfaces, engine history and connection to an external event remain unknown until checked. Another test vehicle’s rating establishes no engine life or health.
Applicability to the individual vehicle
- Certain MY2016–2020 gasoline engines, not all MDX; hybrid applicability unestablished.
- No journal geometry or bearing wear from photos, noise alone, invoice or crash test.
- Dated conditional repair is not current VIN status or automatic replacement.
