Broken glass does not establish its cause
Acura 22-014 dated June 10, 2022 explicitly concerns rear glass broken without external impact. It lists all MY2019 RDX and separate MY2020 2WD/AWD VIN ranges. This service bulletin is not a recall or one cause for every broken RDX window.
Record fragments, event location, initial images and contact history. On an already rear-damaged car, no impact cannot be assumed. No event photograph does not prove no impact.
Possible cause and initial examination
The bulletin identifies an incorrectly specified defroster grid as a possible cause. It checks front/rear bumpers, tailgate, rear wiper and tailgate alignment/operation. Its glass-replacement branch follows absence of those damage/alignment signs.
Possible matters: it neither proves each cause nor supplies a failure rate. Discarded fragments or replacement without baseline records lose evidence; a later new-window photograph cannot restore it.
When the tailgate is also damaged
With visible tailgate contact, document metal skin, gaps, wiper mounts and accessible frame. None alone measures internal glass stress. Defroster caused it without excluding external impact exceeds the bulletin.
Poor closing remains a separate defect. New glass does not automatically verify tailgate mechanics. Body inspection and glass-replacement records answer different rear-repair questions.
What the short bulletin does not provide
22-014 refers to Rear Window Area service information. Its two pages are not the complete installation procedure. Materials and conditions must come from relevant current service documentation.
Identify the glass fitted, frame defects and recorded checks. A part number alone does not establish installation quality. No adhesive, preparation or curing values are borrowed from another model here.
Crash testing concerns another mechanism
IIHS identifies MY2019 redesign; Honda conducted VTN1804 with a MY2019 RDX Advance 4wd. This body context studies neither defroster failure nor residual tailgate condition.

Until bulletin conditions are established, the glass cause remains open. No individual VIN eligibility, blanket MY2020 coverage or later-RDX repair requirements are asserted.
Applicability to the individual vehicle
- 22-014 expressly requires no external impact; possible cause is not individual forensic proof.
- MY2020 2WD/AWD VIN ranges remain separate; no full public VIN reproduced.
- Separate service instructions required; no invented adhesive/curing/installation method.
