The problem is airbag position
On specified Q8 MY2023–2024, the driver-seat thorax airbag may be incorrectly mounted in the backrest frame. Activation could place it outside the intended position. This concerns seat-airbag mounting, not the roof curtain or a reported inflator rupture.
How the defect was found and checked
The supplier found the issue in a production airbag test in November 2023. 69GA checks installation inside the driver’s backrest. The document names no warning signs; no indication alone is not a physical mounting inspection.
Identify the actually fitted seat and upholstery-repair history. Ask whether the mounting was accessible and what was found. An intact cover and clear code list do not show the mechanical position beneath.
Repair: correct installation, not automatic replacement
The dated remedy correctly reinstalls the airbag if necessary following inspection. It prescribes no part replacement. A new-airbag invoice therefore proves neither an original mounting defect nor completion of 69GA.
Name the inspected seat, mounting findings and operation. SRS work must follow the full procedure for that equipment. This article supplies no independent airbag dismantling or torques; campaign number does not determine those parameters.
Distinctions after a side impact
Deployed bag, door deformation and incorrect mounting are different observations. A deployed bag’s cover photo cannot reconstruct original fastener positions. Assessing performance needs event/inspection physical data, beyond recall presence in the model.
Which Q8 vehicles this covers
The Q8 row in 23V-868 specifies MY2023–2024, August 11–October 23, 2023. SQ8, RSQ8, Q7 and SQ7 have separate rows. Similar naming does not include Q8 e-tron.
IIHS publishes VTN1815 on Q8 MY2019, conducted by Volkswagen/Audi. The body result does not inspect every seat’s assembly in a later production cohort.
Applicability to the individual vehicle
- Driver-seat thorax airbag, not curtain or entire SRS.
- Specific Q8 cohort; current VIN status and actual mounting need checking.
