What fails: the M74/B42 connection below the driver’s dash
On certain Nissan Rogue T32 MY2014–2016 vehicles, corrosion can damage the connection between main harness M74 and body harness B42. Nissan bulletin NTB22-076 addresses these two connectors. Access is in the lower left interior around the inner sill trim and dash-side finisher.

Symptoms: when to inspect this connection
Nissan’s 22V-024 description lists an inoperative driver’s power window or power-seat adjustment, an AWD indication, battery drain, a burning smell and smoke below the driver’s dash. Connector heat damage is possible. One symptom does not determine the cause, but electrical complaints combined with moisture in this area give a specific inspection direction.
Before service, record which function stopped working, when the warning appears and whether the carpet is wet. Do not attribute every symptom to a weak battery without checking the wiring. Smoke or a burning smell calls for service inspection rather than repeatedly operating affected functions.
How water reaches the contacts
Nissan describes salt-containing water in the driver’s footwell wicking along harness tape to the connector. Corrosion allows unwanted current between terminals. The problem can therefore affect a particular electrical connection without the vehicle having been fully submerged.
Find and address the actual moisture source on the individual vehicle. Wet underlay, housing marks and terminal corrosion are separate findings. Carpet alone cannot show the inside of a closed connector, and a dry exterior after cleaning cannot reconstruct its previous condition.
What the technician should inspect
NTB22-076 calls for confirming R21B9 eligibility, accessing M74/B42, removing foam and vinyl covering from the relevant B42 branch and inspecting both connectors for corrosion. The finding selects the repair branch. This is wiring work under Nissan’s full procedure; a carpet inspection alone is insufficient.

Ask for both sides of the connection to be documented before cleaning, with the actual defect named. If the connector was inaccessible, the finding should say not inspected. A photograph after grease application cannot replace an initial condition record when explaining electrical complaints.
Repair: two branches, beyond automatic harness replacement
Where corrosion is present, Nissan’s letter specifies tape/covering removal, replacement of both connectors and white lithium grease. Without corrosion, the connectors are retained: the specified covering is removed and grease applied. Neither branch imposes a general requirement to replace the entire body harness.

During replacement, NTB22-076 requires terminal positions to be checked because some repair-wire colours may differ. The final procedure separately includes driver’s power-window initialization and an auto-up check. Repair quality therefore involves more than fitting a new plastic housing.

The work result should identify initial condition, the repair branch performed and checks of the functions behind the complaint. If battery drain or another error remains, investigation continues; a completed recall entry does not resolve every electrical fault.
Which years and versions are covered
The main 22V-024 scope is certain US Rogue MY2014–2016 vehicles; R21B9 status requires a VIN check. This article does not transfer the procedure to MY2017–2020. IIHS also distinguishes the earlier Rogue Select design from the new Rogue, so a shared part of the name is insufficient for applicability.

Common questions
Does a wet floor establish flooding? No. The actual moisture path and accessible damage need inspection. This scenario links the footwell to a particular connection; it does not establish a vehicle-submersion history.
Is drying the carpet enough? For an affected vehicle, the specified work involves harness covering and terminals; corrosion requires both connectors to be replaced. Drying alone is neither completed remedy branch.

What can a VIN report with photographs show? Visible interior and accessible-component damage in dated images. It establishes the inside of M74/B42 only when corresponding inspection material is available; a VIN or repair entry alone does not prove that condition.
Applicability to the individual vehicle
- R21B9 and NTB22-076 are limited to specified US MY2014–2016 T32 vehicles; current individual VIN eligibility is unverified.
- Photo, auction and history observations are not a physical connector inspection or a flood diagnosis.
- No incidence, probability or cost claim is made; the full wiring procedure remains required.
