What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
GM opened [ref], but no oil consumption test or repair has been done. Low oil in this engine risks bearing damage and sudden engine failure while driving, the failure mode NHTSA is investigating under EA26005 for L87 engines built after Recall 25V-274's production window, which includes this vehicle.
The vehicle began shaking and the engine shut down. There were no check-engine lights, warning messages, or other notifications prior to or during the failure. The vehicle was towed to a GM dealer. Diagnostic testing at the dealer confirmed that the engine requires replacement under Special Coverage N252494003.
When stepping on the brakes out random the 63 mph speed limit alert along with service esc, front collision un available messages show on the dashboard and little by little the brakes stop functioning up until a point where brakes don’t work at all.
While the contact's daughter-in-law was driving 60 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle before the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was restarted.
This vehicle was previously subject to NHTSA Recall 25V-274 / GM N252494000 for L87 engine failure and loss of propulsion. An authorized GMC dealer completed the recall procedure on November 3, 2025. The engine was not replaced; it passed the prescribed inspection and received the higher-viscosity-oil remedy.
However, the vehicle experienced engine failure approximately seven months later. While driving 50 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The driver pulled over, restarted the vehicle, and resumed normal driving.
Cameras go black and become inop randomly. Been in shop multiple times for concern. Software updates have been performed, modules replaced, cables, and now it’s back for the same concern.
In addition, the contact's wife noticed an abnormal knocking sound before the engine seized. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and DTC: P0305 (lifter on cylinder 5); was retrieved, and the intake valve detached and damaged the camshaft.
