What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
When hitting the pot hole, our SUV seemed to leap forward a bit and when the brakes were applied to slow and stop, the braking system failed (appeared to freeze) and the brakes did not work, and because the braking didn’t work, our vehicle hit the car in front of us.
On 3 occasions over my 18-month ownership of this certified pre-owned Hyundai 2022 Tucson, the vehicle surged suddenly forward WITH BRAKE APPLIED at creeping (parking) speeds of 3-4 mph. No warning lamps were observed.
The contact stated that while maneuvering into a handicap parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle climbed over a concrete parking bollard and struck a handicap sign, resulting in unintended acceleration. The vehicle was damaged in the undercarriage.
I turned my blinker on to switch lanes, checked my blind spot, and moved over to the left. As I was doing so, a semi switched lanes from the left into the right (my new lane) right in front of me.
The air bags failed to deploy. No warning light was illuminated. The contact's husband sustained back injuries, while the contact suffered a concussion. Medical attention was received for both. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company.
My camera and backup system have not been working correctly since early March of 2024. It has been in service seven times since then, at two different dealers and no service department has been able to fix the problem. There were no warning signs at all, the camera and backup just stopped working.
The vehicle suffered major side impact damage, including broken windows and crushed passenger-side doors, but none of the airbags deployed. This raises serious concerns about a possible brake system failure and airbag non-deployment defect. The vehicle has not yet been repaired and is available for inspection.
This 2022 Hyundai Tucson stalled in the middle of a busy highway with my wife in the vehicle. The car suddenyly stalled while going 75mph and she was almost killed and got rear ended.
