What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained head injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
The contact stated that while driving 30 mph and applying the brakes, the engine stalled without warning and caused the driver to crash into another vehicle. The driver sustained injuries to the back. The vehicle was destroyed and a police report was not filed.
The airbags did not deploy. I bruised my rib cage badly from slamming into the steering wheel, even though it was a low mileage, frontal impact. The car is still in repair.
Saturn sky fitted with goodyear eagle f1 gs-2 tires. Because of no traction on slick roadway, car spun out while slowly accelerating, crossed two lanes, and hit guardrail. Anti-lock brakes and counter steering had no effect.
The parking brake does not engage at all even though the parking brake lever give resistance as normal and only lifts about 5 clicks from the bottom. the vehicle rolls when it is engaged as though it is not even pulled up. This is especially scary because it is a manual vehicle. Only hast 58,449 miles on it.
I was driving on my way to a doctor's appointment, and when I reached a speed of 55 mph, there was a loud whining sound coming from the rear. I had to slow down below 55, so the noise would go away, and it scared me.
This is exactly the situation I found, and it is not at all unreasonable to conclude that this could have easily resulted in a fire. These same parts are shared by the Pontiac Solstice and the Hummer H3 (for which, I believe, a recall was issued).
I need to turn on my head lights manually during the day to see how fast I am going. Review the picture to see how dark the instruments are during driving. General motors needs to apply tsb #06-08-49-016 (nhtsa: 10020735) as a recall to resolve this problem.
