What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
I have run off the road because of the sudden acceleration. I was able to stop unharmed during that incident. The engine continues to run poorly after returning to the original altitude I started at. 3) throttle body adjustments have been made to add more fuel to the engine all the time. This has not helped.
While trying to perform a low speed maneuver (pulling in to a gravel parking lot), the engine acted as if it was going to stall, then caught suddenly, resulting in a fall.
It has a blown fork seal, which is a pretty common occurrence. This is in the front suspension and steering. There are 2 special tools necessary to repair this, according to the factory service manual. Neither of these special tools are available from yamaha.
If the problem is not corrected it could, over time, cause the vent pipe to rust through. This would then allow water to enter the fuel tank and contaminate the fuel, which could cause the engine to stop suddenly.
My lights went out because the down stream from the s4 connector, the s6 (had burned contacts) which the feed the s7 connector for the lh head light and the s8 connector for the rh headlight.
The side case lock failed, causing the side case (saddlebag) to fall open while riding. This caused the motorcycle to swerve, nearly causing a crash. I repaired the lock by adding a lock washer and liquid locktite to the single screw holding the lock in place.
I was riding home from work in the dark on my 2007 yamaha fjr1300 motorcycle on a unlit, curvy, rural road when both my headlights suddenly died. Although I was able to avoid crashing, this is a huge safety concern.
The engine quit, and everything went dead except for the instrument panel, where every light came on, and the fuel level lcd started flashing. Turning the ignition off and taking the key out did nothing. Everything stayed lit up.
