It was discovered that the frame was severely rusted and the vehicle should not be driven. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The pcm/ecu (cars computer or brain), that controls everything in the vehicle, sensors, emissions, fuel etc.has gone out for the second time causing a crank no start issue. Took vehicle to my local jeep dealer (hemet, ca.) for them to charge me $1450.00!!! For a new pcm! And not a new part, but a rebuilt one!
Driving above 55 miles, going over a bump or rough area will cause the vehicle to shake violently (nick-named "death wobble" by jeep owners) and becomes very hard to controll. Have to slow down or stop completly in order to get it stop. On the highway where speed limit is 75 miles, it could be deadly.
The exhaust manifold headers have cracked in two separate locations. The first crack is located at a bend in the header and the second crack is near the weld at the flange where it connects to the exhaust pipe.
I showed approximate area of leaking at foot level on right lower body and they replaced the window! Next time they sealed the firewall and finally two sealant patches were made in the area of actual leakage. Total of four trips to have fixed. Still slightly leaks in the heaviest rains at freeway speeds.
There had been no fire yet...but the wires are getting hard and brittle. The first switch just showed some melting of the plastic on the switch housing. The second switch had the metal lug that the high-speed fan wire connets to completely loose from the switch and hanging in the wire connector.
