What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
On the rear vent hub, is an air vent that sporadically leaks oil. As a result, the oil leaks onto the tire which increases the risk of serious injury or a crash. The dealer could not identify the cause of the failure or provide a sufficient remedy. As of october 8, 2008, the vehicle has not been properly repaired.
The drive line cover does not keep water from the drive line. This has caused damage to the drive line gears. There has not been an accident yet but there is an unusual noise. The dealer/manufacturer will do nothing even though an extended warranty was purchased.
Tl contact owns a 2007 honda shadow vt1100c. When the vehicle was idling, the contact noticed a puddle of gasoline under the vehicle. He took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and they noticed that the hose connected to the gas tank was allowing fuel to leak. He noticed that the failure worsens in the sunlight.
Dt*: the contact stated that the motorcycle is leaking fuel out of the vent hose at the bottom of the bike. The motorcycle was taken to the dealership four times who determined this was normal. The motorcycle is a 2006 honda spirit 1100. Gas was leaking from the tank.
Dt: contact states due to a bolt left out of the rear shock while riding motorcycle the rear shock fell off.
On 2 separate occasions gear lever fell loose and hung down, but didn't separate. This occurred while pulling off the road and exiting a ramp. When this occurred the consumer was not able to steer the motorcycle.
