What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
When this occurs, the engine does not crank, the dashboard remains illuminated, the radio and other accessories shut down, and the display instructs the driver to press the brake to start the engine. Pressing the brake and attempting to restart the vehicle does not work.
When attempting to accelerate after completing a stop, there was no response from the vehicle when the accelerator was pressed for 2-3 seconds, then the vehicle suddenly lurched violently forward and hit the rear end of a vehicle in front causing severe damage to the cars.
The air bags deployment frightened the contact’s wife, and the steering wheel was jerked, and the vehicle crashed into the concrete median. The contact stated that the front driver's side tire was flat. The contact removed the deployed side curtain air bags and replaced the driver's side front wheel.
Lane keeping assistance and automatic cruise control were active. The lane lines looked perfectly fine. A couple minutes before the accident the car left the lane unexpectedly but we were able to get back into it.
The air bags failed to deploy. There was no warning light illuminated before or after the crash. The police officers arrived at the scene, but it was unknown whether a police report was filed. An ambulance transported the contact to the hospital, where it was confirmed that no serious injury was sustained.
