What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
Driving home late at night, from babysitting my grandkids, was hit in the rear end by a drunk driver (arrested by the state police), going a high rate of speed. The drivers seatback broke from the impact and I was unable to maintain control. Suv rolled 3 times across the expressway. Side curtain airbags deployed.
The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the engine started to overheat, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway to let the engine cool down.
Consumer stated brakes fail intermittently when they fail the abs and brake light on the dash are lit up. Updated 7/31/18
Passenger side rear inner fender well rusted completely through above the rear shock causing the shock to potentially break through and drop the whole suspension and cause and accident or flip over if it broke through during a turn. The rest of the vehicle hardly has any rust on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 mercury mariner hybrid. The contact stated that the alarm system sounded independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
While driving approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled and the instrument panel displayed a triangle with an exclamation point. The panel displayed that the driver needed to pull over immediately.
While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check four by four, service brakes, and pull over safely warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.
The power steering went out in my mother's 2007 mariner hybrid with 72,000 miles due to failure of the power steering control module. After searching online forums, I found this to be a rather common issue on the 05-07 mariner and escape hybrids.
