What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The contact dove into the driver's seat and attempted to move the gear shift but it was already in park (P). The contact was not sure if the brake was depressed at that time. The vehicle continued to reverse and collided with a creek bed.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2016 Toyota Sequoia. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 158,343, and at the time of vehicle registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 258,000.
Third row seatbelts broke. They came undone from where they are bolted to the bottom of the car. My children were in their car seats anchored by the seatbelts when these broke when the vehicle was moving and they flew sideways.
I own a 2018 Toyota Sequoia experiencing fuel pump failure symptoms including extended crank and loss of power. This issue matches NHTSA Recall 20V012000, which affects similar vehicles with the same fuel pump defect. However, my VIN is not included in the recall despite identical symptoms and safety risk.
The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle started. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle drove abnormally rough. No warning lights were illuminated.
Parking brake requires continual adjustment. Brake becomes non functional when brakes are hot and then park on a hill. Examples would include pulling our boat and going to the boat ramp off the highway. Parking brakes loses any ability to hold the vehicle.
