What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact had several injuries. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 800. The VIN was not available.
Air bags (manufacture unknown) on sept 29, 2018 while driving on a two lane highway at 50 mph, my steering wheel and knee bags inflated for no reason. I applied the brakes and lost sight of the road for several seconds because of the fog on the windshield.
During a recent visit to a local body shop they noticed that the bed of the truck was rusting in four separate places where the cross members attach to the frame. A tsb was issued, obviously a known issue from toyota, but I never received via mail.
My head struck the drivers side window, transported by fire & rescue to local hospital. Hospital diagnosis was a "closed wound concussion". Other driver was charged on multiple counts. Mechanics that repaired my truck estimate the vehicle that hit me was travelling 40-45mph. My airbags did not deploy.
The contact was braking from 30 mph when the brakes failed to engage. The contact proceeded to crash into the rear of another vehicle. The driver side air bag deployed yet the contact sustained injuries to the shoulder, back and right leg. The vehicle was towed to a garage.
The brake pedal was engaged with great force and the vehicle surged 3 inches striking the curbside. The gear was shifted into park and the engine turned off. The contact sustained minor injury to the knee. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer.
Took my 2010 Tundra in for service at a local repair shop and was told that my frame has severe rust on the frame and is in poor condition. I am worried about the safety of this vehicle for me and my family. I am the only owner of the truck and purchased it brand new. What can be done? Thank you
Rusting frame on the vehicle leading to potential cracks and creating safety concerns. Truck has low miles and been well maintained. This is my second Toyota truck with a rusted frame. No help or support from Toyota on my concerns with the 2010 Tundra.
