Gasoline and PHEV expressly separate
22V-155 revised December 21, 2022 separates A7 MY2019–2021 from added MY2021–2022 vehicles, identified by supplier tank lists. A6/A7 PHEV are expressly excluded because of different tank geometry. A7 alone does not transfer the mechanism to hybrids.
Identify version and actual fuel equipment before underside assessment. Gauge reading, outer tank and replacement history are distinct. Body name alone cannot establish internal layout.
The sender can catch an internal pipe
Audi describes insufficient clearance under certain tolerances between sender and vent pipe. A stuck sender could fail to register declining fuel, leaving gauge/range incorrect until fuel exhaustion stops the engine. This is not a punctured-tank leak.
Record a stop with indicated remaining fuel and timing. It does not automatically prove pump failure, stuck sender or fuel-loss cause. Each alternative requires tests.
External tank impact is another evidence branch
Record lower contact, housing dent and fluid separately. Outside deformation does not show actual inner clearance. A sender campaign does not excuse skipping shell/connection inspection after contact.
Without baseline images, earlier traces cannot be confidently reconstructed. Washed/replaced tanks do not restore the original state. Name untested components and causal hypotheses explicitly.
Remedy addresses sender geometry
The dated remedy installs a sender with tighter geometry tolerances to provide pipe clearance, not a universal pump/tank replacement. It identifies neither individual component coverage nor current VIN completion.
Separate sender replacement, other fuel work and actual checks. Fuel-system repair does not name the confirmed internal defect. Retained part identity supports the exact documentation version.
Why A7 uses an A6 crash test
IIHS refers to the MY2019 A6 Sedan VTN1903, conducted by Volkswagen/Audi, transferring ratings to MY2019-redesigned A7 on structural similarity. This establishes no identical tank, sender or repair procedure.
A frontal test does not check another repaired car’s gauge. Completion needs actual equipment, defect and control results; unknown internals remain explicit.
Applicability to the individual vehicle
- Specified gasoline A7 MY2019–2022 tank cohorts; PHEV excluded, no S7/RS7/A6 merge.
- Stuck sender is not proof of leak, impact cause, pump failure or individual internal geometry.
- A6 crash-rating transfer is not part interchangeability or current VIN eligibility.
