Ford Escape 2020–2022: only 35% fixed in the US, while hundreds are for sale in Ukraine

Ford is recalling 889,950 Escape 2020–2022 and related vehicles: the rearview camera image on the centre display may flip or invert. According to the latest manufacturer report (Q3 2026) only 34.5% have been fixed. Meanwhile 406 Escapes of these years are for sale in Ukraine after an accident, 233 of them via a US auction.

Why it matters to a Ukrainian buyer

A car sold at a US auction after a crash almost never goes to a Ford dealer in the US for the free update. So for an imported Escape the chance that the recall is still open is higher than the 65% in the US.

The fix is simple, an APIM module software update. But in Ukraine it is done only for a fee, and often only if the owner knows about the campaign.

Our position

Before buying a 2020–2022 Escape, check by VIN whether campaign 26V123000 is closed and engage reverse during the inspection. A flipped or frozen image is not a trifle: after an accident this symptom is easy to confuse with a damaged camera or wiring in the rear bumper.
