What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
I was driving and my headlights stopped working, sooner I came to realize the horn doesn't either. I diagnosed the relay to be okay.
Without warning, the vehicle spontaneously caught fire originating from the engine compartment. The vehicle was not running, had not been driven recently, and there was no collision or external fire source. The fire caused extensive damage to the engine bay, wiring, and surrounding components.
The vehicle developed rod knock consistent with rod bearing failure. The symptoms match known Hyundai Theta II engine defects that led to prior recalls and warranty extensions on similar engines. Vehicle was diagnosed by dealership with rod knock.
Total engine failure due to bearing displacement which caused the engine to fail and throw a rod. This caused 3 holes in the engine block which caused oil to pour out onto the highway.
The adjustment on the steering column for telescopic/up/down adjustments doesn't hold the steering wheel in place, even under light pressure like trying to honk the horn, the column just pushes in.
The car is kept at a dealership in Savannah. The recall 251 caused the damage of the ABS. The dealership says it is not possible to fix, the manufacturer does not assume any responsiility
This is very discouraging since I drive this car often and thereâs a fire risk of it being parked or driving. I donât really understand what is going. Is there no part to fix the recall? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. There was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. The contact was able to pull over safely.
