What owners report
Short excerpts of NHTSA complaints in the original wording. These are owner statements not verified by NHTSA; personal data removed.
The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph and exiting a parking lot when the vehicle accelerated on its own, veered to the left, and crashed into a gate. No warning lights were illuminated and the air bags failed to deploy.
My daughter was hit by a red light runner at 60mph and her airbags did not deploy at all. Her head hit the door and she sustained a broken collarbone, concussion and mild brain bleed.
Vehicle speed control / sudden unintended acceleration. This was NOT a "misapplication of pedal" by driver! It was clearly a mechanical failureâapparently accelerator pedal (not floor mat, which was secured on its pegs). NO warning lamp, msg, symptom prior to crash.
The steering stopped responding, car started spinning hitting both left and right retaining walls. Normal high way driving. Great dry weather. NO WARNING- no shake- no rattle-no lights- no noise-NOTHING
The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that the driver hit her head however, medical attention was not required. A police report was filed as the other vehicle did not stop and left the scene. The tire on the front driver's side was pushed into the body the vehicle was towed to the contact's home.
My wife was pulling into a parking space and when she hit her brakes the car took off just like been reported with unintended acceleration and witness even saw her brake lights on and the car was put in park and the engine was still revving very high like the accelerator was stuck wide open.
While driving approximately 65 mph, the steering failed and was difficult to control. In addition, the engine stalled. As a result, a crash occurred. The contact was injured and received medical attention. A police report was not filed. There were no warning indicators illuminated.
She proceeded to turn left into a parking stall and was preparing to apply the brakes when the corolla suddenly accelerated and mounted a raised landscaped area in front of the stall. The corolla traveled about 15 feet before it struck a large, metal, electrical utility box and stopped.
